Mountaineering Festival “Erydag 2010”

The Russian Mountaineering Federation invites you to take part in the International Festival held in the area of the mountain Erydag (Republic of Dagestan).


 


      The unique flat mountain Erydag (3925m) is located in the gorge of the river Chekhychai in the Southern Dagestan. This region is the southernmost territory of the Russian Federation, it having a favourable climate and wonderful nature. The highest point of Dagestan and Azerbaijan the mountain Bazardyuzi (4466m) is situated here. The sacred mountain Shalbuzdag (4142m) is very popular with climbers and pilgrims. Extreme mountaineers also like the legendary mountain Erydag which has vertical drops of the walls up to 1300 meters. Several championships (USSR – 1981, Russia – 2002, 2005) were held on the walls of this huge flat mountain.
        
    You will be able to see an exciting extreme show demonstrated by the best mountaineers of Russia. Man and woman teams will compete on 35 difficult routes.
         There is another spectacular sight of this region: waterfalls descending from the walls of Erydag in May – July.
         You will visit the highest settlement of Europe – Kurush (2560m), you will see the culture and everyday life of the people who live in the mountains. The way to this settlement goes through an ancient town Derbent (5000 years), its monuments are included into UNESCO list.
    The quality and quantity of the routes for mountaineers and rock-climbers will meet the requirements of different climbers, athletes and tourists.
      The height of the campsite is 2350 meters; it is situated near the river Chekhychai. It takes 5 – 20 minutes to get from here to the rock routes (2-30 metres). The approach to the famous wall Erydag will take not more than 2 hours.
     You will be able to walk up to the plateau (approx. 4000m) by an easy trail and admire the nearest summits of Dagestan, Azerbaijan, Armenia and the Caspian Sea.
     Those who wish may climb any of 28 routes of different grades on the mountains Shalbuzdag and Bazardyuzi.
      Friendly competitions for adults and children will take place in adventure parks.
      Those who like horse-riding may take the routes to Kurush pass (3160m).

      Children teams will climb an easy route to Erydag.

    The cultural programme includes acquaintance with everyday life and traditions of the people of the settlement of Kurush. Different folk groups will take part in concerts.
    Nowadays there is no proper infrastructure in the area of Erydag
    But in the campsite there will be maximum comfortable conditions for the guests’ stay including electricity, internet, water supply, etc.

      We will be very glad to see you in Erydag!

  Purposes:
- the international exchange of experience and actual information,
- knowledge improvement in mountaineering in the sphere of safety,
- promotion and popularization of rock-climbing and mountaineering in the region,
- popularization of the healthy way of life,
- popularization of  the idea of peace and cooperation.

  Organizers:
  The Festival is organized and held by the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Russian Federation, by the Russian Mountaineering Federation and Mountaineering Federation of Dagestan

   Programme:
The Festival programme includes the following disciplines:
- mountaineering (man and woman pairs),
- rock-climbing (men, women),
- horse riding,
- easy climbs to Bazardyuzi, Shalbuzdag, Erydag,
- child climb to Erydag,
- swimming in the Caspian Sea,
- trip to town Derbent.

26th June. Arrival and placing participants, judges and guests, registration. Technical meeting with judges.
27th June. Opening ceremony of the festival.
28th June. Mountaineering competitions on short distance.
29 June - 10 July. Mountaineering competitions on extreme routes.
30 June - 8 July – horse riding.
1-10 July – Climbs to the summits, easy routes.

3-7 July – rock-climbing competitions
9-10 July – child climb to Erydag.
11 July – Closing ceremony of the festival. Awarding. Departure.

 
Participants: there are the following groups (men and women, boys and girls):
- children 6 - 12 years
- teenagers 13-16 years
- veterans -1 - 50-59 years
- veterans-2 - 60 years and more.
- adults
−    beginners (regardless of the age).
