Russia as a country of ski-mountaineering

1. Russia is the great sport country. Especially for winter sports. It is not by chance we have received a trust and honour to organize the Olympic Games Sochi 2014.

2. Russia is the country with rich traditions of ski tourism. Thousands of Russians travel on skis, thousands of people take part in specific competitions on the technique of ski tourism.

3. Russia is the country with the developed system of sports mountaineering. Our new leaders and staff of the Russian Mountaineering Federation (RMF) are very energetic and progressive, RMF now is efficient organization with big plans for future.

4. Russia - the country with a quantity of racing skiers which now make a basis of a national ski-mountaineering team and which in the long term should make a new, ambitious national competition team.

5. Russia is a very rich country, where everything is possible, even it seems impossible now.

The Committee on Ski-mountaineering

The Committee on Ski-mountaineering of Russia works as a structure of the Russian Mountaineering Federation (RMF) and our activity will be completely within existing infrastructure of RMF.

The Committee on Ski-mountaineering of Russia makes it one's mission to expand cooperation within the structures of the International Ski-Mountaineering Federation.

We hope to get help from ISMF and leaders of European ski-mountaineering in all aspects of modern sport: training of referees and specialist, certification of competitions etc…

The Committee allots the task of wide promotion of ski-mountaineering in Russia as independent sport and as part of mountaineering. We will try to convince Russian ski-tourists for using classical ski-mountaineering equipment.

The Committee sets a mission in establishment of long-term and productive contacts with manufacturers of ski-mountaineering equipment. We should find ways of maintenance of strongest sportsmen and talented youth by modern and qualitative equipment.

The Committee makes it one's mission of organization and carrying out competitions on high international level.

We are sure that it is necessarily to work for including ski-mountaineering in the Olympic program of 2014 as a demonstration kind of sport. Krasnaya Poliana, ski Olympic resort, is an excellent place for carrying out of competitions on ski-mountaineering of the highest level. We plan to organize there competitions of World Cup level in the future.

The Committee sets as the aim organization of a series of regular competitions in various mountain regions of Russia: in four regions of the Caucasus (Krasnaya Poliana, Dombay, Elbrus and North Ossetia), in Khibiny, in the Ural Mountains, on Kamchatka...

We intend to expand ski-mountaineering geography in Russia, by involving in teamwork regions, with conditions approaching for it: Altai, Krasnoyarsk, Baikal, the Far East....

The Committee will work on expansion of the area of sports ski-mountaineering in the countries which are close to us both geographically, and cultural, using our good communications in the states of the Central Asia and Transcaucasia.

We have a competition calendar that includes five starts.
